Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the lowest part of your rectum and anus. Sometimes, the walls of these blood vessels stretch so thin that the veins bulge and get irritated, especially when you poop. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins located around the anus or in the lower rectum. About 50 percent of adults experience the symptoms of hemorrhoids by the age of 50.

Patients should also keep in mind that not all hemorrhoids are the same and that they may not always present with the same symptoms. There are different types of hemorrhoids, refer to the following:

External Hemorrhoids

The growth of hemorrhoids outside the anus, which can be felt and seen, is often recognized as external hemorrhoids. External hemorrhoids are the most common and most troublesome. Hemorrhoids cause pain, severe itching, and difficulty sitting.
Symptoms of external hemorrhoids include:
1.Itching or irritation in your anal region
2.Pain or discomfort
3.Swelling around your anus
4.Bleeding

Internal Hemorrhoids

Internal hemorrhoids take place inside the rectum. In general, these kinds of hemorrhoids are asymptomatic themselves because of their place. In cases where inner hemorrhoids cause patients discomfort, they frequently have a large size. Larger inner hemorrhoids can trigger pain, itching, or burning symptoms.
Symptoms of internal hemorrhoids include:
1.Blood on your poop, on toilet paper after you wipe, or in the toilet bowl
2.Hemorrhoid to push through the anal opening (prolapsed or protruding hemorrhoid), resulting in pain and irritation.

Thrombosed hemorrhoids

Thrombosed hemorrhoids are internal or external hemorrhoids in which a blood clot (thrombosis) has developed. Symptoms that accompany a thrombosed hemorrhoid are often more severe than normal and can include intense itching, burning, pain, redness, and swelling. The area around hemorrhoid may also take on a bluish color.
Symptoms of thrombosed hemorrhoids include:
1.Severe pain
2.Swelling
3.Inflammation
4.A hard lump near your anus

Prolapsed Hemorrhoids

When inner hemorrhoids swell and protrude, a prolapsed hemorrhoid happens. A physician can assign a degree to hemorrhoid based on how far it reaches:
Grade 1 – No prolapse
Grade 2 – Prolapse under pressure such as straining during a bowel movement but return on their own
Grade 3 – Prolapse that can be pushed back in by the patient
Grade 4 – Prolapse that is too painful to be pushed back in

If you have bleeding during bowel movements or you have hemorrhoids that don’t improve after a week of home care, talk to your doctor.
